01 · Coverage

A selected window, not all readers

Bookitis observes a selected set of indexed, eligible YouTube channels through the documented YouTube Data API. Our surfaces reflect that coverage—not every creator, reader, sale, or conversation.

Attention is not quality.A ranking or designation does not mean a book is objectively good, important, or universally popular.

02 · Measured

The weekly conversation

A work qualifies when at least one eligible public video from a creator links to it and the video was published within the rolling seven-day half-open window. Repeat mentions by the same creator and work count once.

We rank by distinct creator count, then newest qualifying mention, then stable work ID. Momentum compares rank with the prior published daily snapshot: New, Up, Down, or Steady. Late discovery does not rewrite historical attention.

03 · Inferred + controlled

Topics require evidence

Book metadata and video analysis can propose topic evidence. A linked video may inherit candidate topics from its books, but inherited and explicit evidence remain distinct. Public topics require three eligible books and three eligible videos.

Confidence, evidence, processor version, and expiry stay attached to inferred signals. Editor attach, remove, hide, rename, merge, and split actions survive later automation.

04 · Editorial

Hidden gems are approved, not calculated into truth

The queue gate requires explicit positive recommendation language from at least four independent creators for the same work in the prior 30 days. Mere mentions, mixed reactions, and repeated videos from one creator do not qualify.

An editor then researches broader reader reception and visibility. At most 12 designations are active; approving a thirteenth removes the oldest. Public pages show only “Hidden gem”—never private excerpts, citations, or research notes.

05 · Accountable control

Automation cannot silently overrule people

  • Legal, safety, privacy, source availability, and opt-out controls always win.
  • Active editor locks win over relationship automation.
  • Verified-creator assertions for their own videos win over approved automated candidates.
  • First-release editorial explanations require approval and all later revisions remain auditable.

06 · Source-first

We point back to the original

Video and channel cards link clearly to YouTube. Bookitis does not embed videos or claim ownership of titles, thumbnails, images, descriptions, or creator work. Bibliographic and cover data carry nearby provider attribution.

Creators can request correction, hide a claimed channel, opt out durably, or restore participation. Source-expired, private, unavailable, hidden, or opted-out material fails closed and disappears from public projections.
