Having a Mary Heart in a Martha World

by Joanna Weaver · 2000

In a world that constantly demands more, Joanna Weaver invites women to rediscover the balance between devotion and duty, drawing on the timeless story of Mary and Martha. She shows how the yearning to sit at Jesus’ feet can coexist with the desire to serve, without the burnout and anxiety that often accompany a hectic life. Through fresh insights and a practical 12‑week Bible study, Weaver guides readers to choose “the better part”—a joyful intimacy with Christ that naturally flows into loving service, helping both Mary‑type contemplatives and Martha‑type doers experience deeper devotion, stronger service, and greater peace.
