Against the Tide

by Elizabeth Camden · 2012

Lydia Pallas has built a life of quiet certainty in a Boston apartment overlooking the harbor, using her gift for languages as a translator for the U.S. Navy. Her world tilts when Alexander "Bane" Banebridge, a brooding operative on a covert crusade against the opium trade, hires her to decode a cache of European documents. As Bane’s relentless mission draws Lydia deeper into a shadowy underworld, the line between duty and desire blurs. Forbidden to become involved, Lydia must decide whether to stay within her safe, ordered existence or risk everything to aid the man whose charm and purpose awaken a fierce, bittersweet love. Together they confront ruthless criminals, testing Lydia’s courage and wits to their very limits.
