City of Ashes

by Cassandra Clare · 2008

When Clary Fray finally thinks she can return to a normal life, the world of Shadowhunters drags her back into danger. Her mother lies in a magical coma, and suddenly she can see the hidden societies of werewolves, vampires, and faeries that surround New York. Torn between a growing romance with her best friend Simon and the fierce, infuriating bond she shares with her new brother Jace, Clary must confront a terrifying truth: the rogue Shadowhunter Valentine—her own father—holds the key to her mother’s cure. As murders of Downworlder children rock the city and the legendary Soul‑Sword is stolen, the Inquisitor arrives, zeroing in on Jace. In this pulse‑pounding sequel, love, loyalty, and betrayal collide, forcing Clary to decide just how far she’ll go to save those she loves.
