Storm of Steel

by Ernst Junger · 1920

Storm of Steel is the memoir of German soldier Ernst Jünger, widely regarded as the most powerful first‑hand account of fighting in World War I. Jünger writes with astonishing power, savagery and ashen lyricism, illuminating both the horrors and the fascination of total war. The narrative follows a young, tough, patriotic yet self‑aware soldier as he experiences the brutal reality of the Great War.
