The River We Remember

by William Kent Krueger · 2023

Set in 1958 in the fictional Minnesota town of Jewel, *The River We Remember* follows Sheriff Brody Dern, a decorated World‑II veteran scarred by his service, as he investigates the shocking murder of wealthy landowner Jimmy Quinn, whose body is found floating in the Alabaster River on Memorial Day. The case quickly becomes tangled with the town’s simmering racial tensions, as suspicion falls on Noah Bluestone, a Native‑American veteran, and uncovers long‑buried secrets involving abuse, prejudice, and family betrayal. Krueger weaves a complex historical mystery that explores the wounds of war, the legacy of injustice, and the quest for redemption in mid‑century America.
