You were never really here

by Jonathan Ames · 2016

Former Marine and ex‑FBI operative Joe is a solitary, scar‑red fixer who makes a living rescuing girls from the sex trade. When a powerful New York senator hires him to retrieve his teenage daughter from a Manhattan brothel, Joe discovers a tangled web of political corruption and brutal violence that reaches far beyond the crime he was hired to solve. As his few allies are eliminated and the stakes rise, Joe is forced to confront the darkest corners of his own trauma and decide whether vengeance can ever bring redemption. A lean, hard‑boiled thriller that pulses with noir intensity, Jonathan Ames delivers a relentless, gritty portrait of a man haunted by the past yet driven to fight the monsters that hide in the city’s shadows.
