Sundiver: A journey into the fires of the sun... in search of those who made us human

by David Brin · 1980

When humanity discovers that every sentient species in the galaxy has been "uplifted" by an older patron race, our own evolution becomes a baffling anomaly. In David Brin’s opening Uplift novel, Expedition Sundiver prepares to plunge into the Sun’s scorching interior—through hidden caverns on Mercury—to uncover the truth behind humanity’s mysterious origins. As a daring crew of scientists and explorers descends toward the solar furnace, they confront alien politics, ancient enigmas, and the very nature of life itself. Brin blends hard‑science speculation with thrilling adventure, asking whether the answer to our rise lies in the heart of the star that sustains us.
