Northwoods

by Amy Pease · 2024

When a teenage boy’s body surfaces in the crystal‑clear waters of Shaky Lake, the quiet charm of Wisconsin’s Northwoods shatters. Veteran Eli North, haunted by his Afghanistan service, a crumbling marriage and a growing dependence on alcohol, finds his only refuge in the tiny sheriff’s department run by his mother. As the town grapples with a spiraling opioid crisis, Eli’s investigation drags him into a wealthy enclave with a violent history, a slick pharmaceutical salesman, and the mystery of a missing girl. Partnered with a determined FBI rookie, Eli must confront the darkness that lurks beneath the vacation‑spot façade—and his own demons—if he hopes to find redemption before the secrets of the Northwoods consume them all.
