Big Little Lies

by Jean-Marc Vallée, Liane Moriarty · 2014

In the sun‑kissed seaside town of Pirriwee, three very different women find their lives tangled by secrets, rivalry, and a shocking death. Madeline, a sharp‑tongued mother still smarting from a divorce, battles the arrival of her ex‑husband’s new wife and the unsettling attraction of her teenage daughter to the man who left her. Celeste, the picture‑perfect wife and mother of rambunctious twins, wrestles with the pressure to maintain a flawless façade while her marriage teeters on the edge. Newcomer Jane, a young single mother with a mysterious past, is mistaken for a nanny and quickly drawn into the community’s tangled web. As schoolyard scandals, marital betrayals, and hidden anxieties surface, the women’s “little lies” begin to spiral into something lethal. Moriarty’s razor‑sharp humor and keen insight turn a seemingly ordinary murder mystery into a compelling exploration of motherhood, friendship, and the dangerous cost of keeping up appearances.
