A queer fantasy retelling of the 12th-century tale of Bisclavret, the werewolf. Bisclavret is a nobleman cursed with a 'wolf-sickness' that forces him into a beast's shape, keeping him in isolation and preventing him from pursuing his dream of knighthood. When a new, lonely king ascends the throne, Bisclavret is forced to emerge from his holdings to swear fealty. A deep, mutual fascination develops between the knight and the king, but secrets and the encroaching threat of the wolf-sickness create barriers between them. When Bisclavret vanishes, the king must navigate his own grief and duty to protect his kingdom, unaware of the true nature of the wolf that remains by his side.
