The Kingdom of Back

by Marie Lu · 2020

In 18th‑century Europe, Nannerl Mozart is a prodigious pianist with a single, burning wish: to be remembered forever. Yet composing is forbidden to women, and her tyrannical father will marry her off once she reaches a certain age. As her younger brother Wolfgang's fame eclipses her own, a mysterious stranger from a magical realm offers her a dangerous bargain that could grant her the legacy she craves—at a potentially devastating cost. Marie Lu weaves a lyrical historical YA fantasy that blends music, sibling rivalry, feminist themes, and magical realism into a story about ambition, family, and the price of fame.
