In the sprawling world of Athera, the ancient prophecy that bound light and darkness to two royal heirs has been shattered. After a devastating defeat, the vengeful Mistwraith curses the realm, pitting Prince Lysaer, the radiant Lord of Light, against Prince Arithon, the enigmatic Master of Shadow. Their once‑shared destiny fractures into a bitter feud that threatens to engulf nations and unravel the delicate balance of mystical forces. As armies clash and ancient powers stir, both princes must confront their own inner darkness and the looming specter of a world plunged into endless war. Janny Wurts weaves a richly detailed saga of honor, betrayal, and the relentless struggle between light and shadow, inviting readers to witness a conflict that could decide the fate of all of Athera.
