John Edward Williams (1922–1994) was an American author and academic. He served as a sergeant in the USAAF in India and Burma during World War II. He earned his Ph.D. from the University of Missouri in 1954 and spent over 30 years directing the creative writing program at the University of Denver. He is the author of novels including 'Stoner' and 'Butcher's Crossing', as well as volumes of poetry.
