The Adventures of China Iron

Set in 1872 Argentina, the story follows China, a young woman living in a remote gaucho encampment. After her husband is conscripted into the army, she embarks on a journey across the pampas with a Scottish settler named Liz. As they travel, Liz provides China with a sentimental education, and together they witness the diverse flora, fauna, and cultures of Argentina, while also confronting the violence inherent in the nation-building process. This subversive retelling of the foundational gaucho epic 'Martín Fierro' is a critique of national myths and a celebration of freedom, love, and the open road.
