Dr. Sam Hawthorne
Edward D. Hoch (1930‑2008) was a prolific American author of detective short fiction, best known for his mastery of the locked‑room and impossible‑crime subgenre. He contributed a fair‑play mystery to every issue of Ellery Queen's Mystery Magazine from 1962 until his death, earned an Edgar Award for short fiction in 1968, and was named a Grand Master by the Mystery Writers of America in 2001. Hoch created the Dr. Sam Hawthorne series, blending intricate puzzles with a cozy New England setting.
