Sir Arthur Ignatius Conan Doyle (1859‑1930) was a Scottish writer and physician best known for creating Sherlock Holmes in 1887. Over his prolific career he authored four Holmes novels, fifty‑six short stories, as well as works of fantasy, science‑fiction, historical novels, poetry, and drama. Doyle’s Holmes stories are considered milestones in crime fiction, and his later works, including the 1917 collection His Last Bow, reflect his interest in wartime espionage and the changing world of the early 20th century.
