Robert Ervin Howard (1906‑1936) was an American pulp writer of fantasy, horror, historical adventure, boxing, western, and detective fiction. He authored over three hundred stories and seven hundred poems, creating a sombre universe of swashbuckling adventure and dark horror. Howard is best known for creating Conan the Cimmerian, the iconic barbarian hero who first appeared in the pages of the Depression‑era pulp magazine Weird Tales, establishing the sword‑and‑sorcery genre.
