Marguerite Young

Marguerite Vivian Young (1908‑1995) was an American poet, novelist, essayist, and creative‑writing instructor. Educated at Indiana University, Butler University (B.A., 1930), the University of Chicago (M.A., 1936) and the University of Iowa, she taught at several institutions, including Fordham University and the New School. Her early work includes two poetry collections, Prismatic Ground (1937) and Moderate Fable (1944), and the nonfiction Angel in the Forest (1945). After two decades of work, she published her magnum opus Miss MacIntosh, My Darling (1965). Later she completed a massive biography of labor leader Eugene V. Debs, published posthumously. Her admirers included Djuna Barnes, Anaïs Nin, and Carson McCullers.
