Annie Proulx

Annie Proulx was born in Connecticut in 1935. She earned a cum laude degree from the University of Vermont in 1969 and an M.A. from Sir George Williams University in Montreal. After three decades in Vermont, she moved to Wyoming in 1994 and now lives in Seattle. Proulx began as a journalist before turning to fiction, publishing stories in Seventeen and Esquire. Her novel The Shipping News (1993) won the Pulitzer Prize and the National Book Award. She has received numerous honors, including two O. Henry Prizes, the National Book Foundation Medal for Lifetime Achievement, and the PEN/Faulkner Award for Fiction.
